My Farmhouse Living Space

2016-03-09_0001

I would definitely define my home decor style as farmhouse with a touch of industrial. Im obsessed with antiques and mixing them in with new pieces. I’m so inspired by Joanna Gaines and everything she stands for, (stay tuned for a later post on that) but her decor style is the most in line with my aesthetic that I’ve come across to date. I follow lots of interior designers and watch all the decor shows…but no one speaks to my soul like Jojo! So when we moved to our home in October, we needed new furniture for the main living space (because our only sectional was assigned to our new basement) so I headed over to Overstock and pickup a new couch, side table and armchair— all with the farmhouse aesthetic in mind! The couch and armchair is not the highest quality — as you will easily tell by the price — but to get the look I wanted on a budget, I am really happy with my selections! The table lamp, metal bar stools, and rug is from target and I actually consider this a magical carpet — hear me out: it hides most dirt and once I even spilled a glass of RED wine on it and you can’t even tell…like I legit ran into the kitchen after it spilled to get a rag and when I came back I didn’t know where the spot was!! Crazy! So if you have kiddos — THIS is the rug for you. The coffee table was from our first apartment that I refinished after my in-laws graciously gave it to us. The big, bulky brown recliner is from HHGregg and it arrived as a result of my hubby “not wanting to sit on my cheap cute couch” so I promised him a man chair (that’s actually to die for — my parents have since purchased the same chair) that would still go perfect with the farmhouse feel. Its a worn suede material and it literally gets comfier by the day. The light pendants were one of my first updates when  we moved in! There were these awful, red moody hanging lights that I removed immediately and hung these beauties. They really are essential for the farmhouse look and you can’t beat Ikea’s prices (and they’re currently on sale!)

The hanging metal cage lamp (cue the industrial flair) was a sweet pickup from an estate sales for $5 — never turn down the chance to go to one of these…you’ll never know what treasures these homeowners have buried in there! The dark curio cabinet is one of my favorite pieces in the house!! I found it the week we were moving and just thought I had to have it! It’s from a shop in downtown Wheaton that was going out of business and selling their old fixtures in the store. Before doing the shiplap wall (I still can’t walk past it without smiling!), the cabinet was tucked in the corner of the room, with one gallery wall centered on that same wall…now with the shiplap I thought to center the cabinet on this wall with two smaller wall galleries on either side– this way the curio cabinet is center stage, in all its glory! Next, the buffet table turned TV stand…this actually might take the crown for favorite piece in the house. This gem was snagged at the flea market for $60 for our wedding sweets table! I just recently undated the knobs on it ($3 for all 6 found on clearance at Home Goods — that spectacular store always has knobs in the clearance section — it’s the easiest/cheapest way to upgrade a furniture piece!). If you hadn’t noticed, I have a slight addiction to fake greenery…it’s everywhere in my house! I just think its such an affordable way to spruce up a space! 90% of these plants came from Ikea but the rest were from Home Goods or TjMaxx. For the wall galleries, they’re a mixture of signs I’ve made, family pictures, a cross we got for our wedding, and a shallow crate turned into a shelf! And last but not least, the little play kitchen was a $5 pickup from Wheaton moms (an awesome Facebook group thats like craigslist without the creepiness) and it was pink + dirty but I refinished it and Brady affectionately refers to it as the “Batman” kitchen…not quite the look I was going for, but thanks Brades! ;)

Hope you like it!!! And feel free to leave any questions in the comments!! xo.
